We Were At ASEP SHAKE Conference, Manila 2019
Prota at ASEP SHAKE 2019: Advancing Earthquake Safety
Prota at ASEP SHAKE 2019 With an expected magnitude of 7.2 due to the West Valley Fault System’s movement, the “BIG ONE” earthquake is predicted to strike Manila and its surrounding areas, potentially causing catastrophic damage and losses. Although the exact timing remains unknown, preparing for earthquake hazards and their impacts is crucial. To address this pressing need, the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines (ASEP) hosted the SHAKE (Smart Technologies and Advanced Knowledge in Earthquake Engineering) Conference from November 14-16, 2019, at Novotel Manila.
Prota’s Contributions at ASEP SHAKE 2019
Prota’s CEO, Joseph Kubin, delivered two insightful technical presentations during the conference. These sessions effectively shared innovative approaches for reviewing and strengthening existing structures to meet current earthquake safety standards.
Retrofitting of a Historical Station Using Base Isolation: This presentation demonstrated the seismic upgrading and restoration of a historical train station in Istanbul, which spanned across widened railway lines for a high-speed rail project.
New Approach for School Assessment: Joseph highlighted practical methods for evaluating and retrofitting hundreds of schools in Turkey, ensuring compliance with revised earthquake standards.
Notably, over 500 attendees gained valuable insights from these presentations, which focused on practical applications of seismic retrofitting. Moreover, the discussions sparked considerable interest in applying similar strategies to other regions.
ProtaStructure at the SHAKE Conference
Prota’s booth, prominently located in the main area, showcased the latest features of **ProtaStructure** with a strong emphasis on seismic design and detailing. Attendees enthusiastically explored how **ProtaStructure** simplifies complex workflows, enhances design precision, and delivers results that meet modern engineering challenges. Furthermore, the live demonstrations highlighted the software’s capabilities, which resonated deeply with the audience.
Gratitude and Looking Ahead
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who visited our booth and attended the presentations at ASEP SHAKE 2019. Undoubtedly, the conference was a resounding success, reinforcing our commitment to empowering engineers with tools like **ProtaStructure**. Through these efforts, we aim to ensure safer structures and resilient communities in the face of seismic risks.
