ProtaStructure 2025 Release Event in Bangkok: What’s New?

The main theme of the ProtaStructure 2025 Release Event in Bangkok will be the unveiling of the ProtaStructure 2025 release, which includes numerous enhancements and new features designed to streamline and enhance the work of structural engineers. Here’s a sneak peek into what attendees can expect:

Enhanced Code Support

ProtaStructure 2025 Release Event in Bangkok introduces several enhancements across multiple design standards. The RC Seismic and Non-Seismic Design now offers improved compliance with ACI318 and similar standards. Steel Seismic Design Checks have been extended to support AISC341 and TBDY2018, including checks for seismic compactness and eccentric braces. The software also enhances design and detailing for RC columns and shearwalls according to Indian Standards, including seismic provisions. For Eurocode 8, detailed calculations for DCH and DCM structures are provided. Additionally, Thailand RC Design Standards are supported with customized strength reduction factors. Drift calculations and scaling are applied more rigorously according to various seismic codes. Finally, batch editing for shearwall end zones, particularly critical wall heights, is now available for efficient detailing.

Design Improvements in ProtaStructure

ProtaStructure 2025 Release Event in Bangkokintroduces several enhancements to streamline the design process and enhance accuracy. The improved Load Combination Editor remembers preferences for a more efficient workflow with a clear layout. Separate combination groups for RC and steel members cover both ULS and SLS combinations. User-defined SLS combinations allow for addressing more serviceability scenarios. Optional notional load improvements account for imperfections in all combinations. The addition of orthotropic shell elements enables accurate modeling and analysis of one-way slabs. A new design option for purlins and girts focuses on non-seismic combinations. Slab design enhancements now include manual strip rebar details in reports. RC beam design seismic checks feature enhanced reports according to ACI318 and Indian Standards, and batch design messages for RC beams are accessible from the ribbon bar for quick access.

Advanced Earthquake Engineering in ProtaStructure

Vertical Modal Earthquake Analysis allows for an accurate assessment of seismic behavior. The new Multi-Mode Pushover Analysis feature enables the evaluation of irregular buildings, considering higher mode effects. Additionally, stability and performance improvements have been implemented based on user feedback, accommodating a wider variety of existing building scenarios and testing.

New Modeling Tools in ProtaStructure 2025 offer significant enhancements:

  • Space Trusses: Easily create, analyze, and design space truss structures.
  • Castellated/Honeycomb Beams: Explore innovative beam designs.
  • Copy/Move Special: Simplify model manipulation.
  • Match Member Properties: Use the Format Painter tool to equate member properties.
  • Quick Load Assignment for Claddings: Simplify load assignment.
  • Storey Visibility Filter: Isolate the active storey with a single click.
  • Cantilever Marks in 3D View: Now available in 3D.
  • Flexible Column End Releases: Assign independent end releases in two directions.
  • Continuous Purlins: Automatically cut and treat purlins as continuous; exportable to ProtaSteel.
  • Girt Section Alignment Options: Includes ‘Centered’, ‘Align to Top’, ‘Align to Bottom’.
  • Insert Purlins Using Multiple Members: Select primary members for precision.
  • Relabel Axes: Auto relabeling for orderly axis labels.
  • Twin Face-to-Face L Sections: New addition to the steel profile catalog.

Advanced BIM Integration Tools in ProtaStructure 2025 offer robust enhancements

The IdeaStatica Export feature enables communication of steel connections to IdeaStatica from ProtaSteel, allowing for CBFEM analysis on the created connections. Improved IFC, SAF, and DXF Communication ensures better compatibility and usability, incorporating a wider range of user scenarios and feedback. Additionally, Quantity Take-Off by Concrete Grade allows for categorized quantity take-offs in projects using multiple concrete grades, streamlining the estimation process.

Analysis Post-Processing tools in ProtaStructure 2025 provide enhanced visualization and interaction with analysis results

Visualization of Pushover and Time-History Results allows for viewing step-by-step nonlinear analysis results with animated time-history displacement and a color-coded plastic hinge mechanism. The Window Selection and Show Values for Selected Only feature enables selecting multiple members or nodes and reviewing displacement values exclusively for the selected elements. Solid View Around Analytical Lines shows physical members as faint extrusions around analytical lines, providing a clearer understanding of how the analytical model integrates with the physical model. The Displaced Solid View with FE Contours displays displacements on the solid model with finite element (FE) contours. Additionally, the Hide/Show Selected Members feature filters selected elements for a more focused review of analysis results. Lastly, the Show/Hide Minimum As in Rebar Contours option allows for better visualization of rebar contours.

RC Detailing in ProtaStructure 2025 introduces several key enhancements.

The Ruler (Box) Style Beam Elevationsfeature allows beam elevations where bars and splices are shown against a ruler in a scaled box. Adjustable Beam Critical Zone Length provides more control over ductile design by allowing user-defined values for beam plastic region lengths. For US codes and similar standards, the Top and Bottom Bar Splices 2H Away From Supports option improves ductile beam detailing. The New Beam Rebar Pattern: Standard Pattern 8 offers more control over beam rebar curtailment. Additionally, a Rebar Table for Pad Footings and Pile Caps is now available, tabulating the pile cap and pad footing rebars in detail drawings. The ability to Export Quantity Tables to Excel with Shape Codes allows for direct export to Excel with bar shapes automatically displayed. These updates, along with Stability and Performance Improvements based on user feedback and testing, enhance overall design accuracy and efficiency.

ProtaSteel Enhancements

The IdeaStatica Export feature allows communication of steel connections to IdeaStatica from ProtaSteel for CBFEM analysis. Exposed Base Plate with Extended Anchor Bolts for Cruciform Steel Columns now supports base plates for king-cross steel columns and other profile types, although it does not support auto design yet. The Curved Beams End Plate Connection feature enables pin and moment connections at the ends of curved beams with new macros. Extended End Plate Connection with Additional Tension Bolts enhances the prequalified seismic connection to support additional tension bolts. The Partial Model Update Between ProtaSteel and ProtaStructure feature allows updating only parts of your model, making it convenient for large-scale projects that require partial updates.
